What is stress management?
Stress is the way in which our minds and bodies respond when we
feel that the demands placed upon us are greater than the resources
we have to meet them.
Stress Management is all about understanding where your stress
is coming from, and finding ways to alleviate it, and also to manage
your life so that it becomes easier and more enjoyable. Stress
Managment can enable you to recognise signs and symptoms of stress
and learn what happens in your body when you experience it.
Stress Management involves you, the client, working with the stress
management trainer to identify demands and decrease them where
necessary, whilst increasing coping resources and developing or
learning new strategies. It is a down to earth, pragmatic and forward
looking approach. Whilst acknowledging that problems may well have
their roots in the past, the focus will tend to be more on how
you are maintaining them in the present, and what can be done to
change them.
In order for the sessions to be of benefit as quickly as possible,
both the client and the trainer need to participate actively. This
means that as well as listening, the trainer may share information,
teach new skills, or make certain recommendations. As the client,
you will be encouraged to put what you learn into action outside
the session..
In cases of bereavement, abuse, addiction, or long term emotional
distress, it is advisable to seek help from a counsellor or psychotherapist.
Please note that LIZ will be on maternity leave from 28th August 2010 for 6 months. She has arranged for four massage therapists to be available in her absence - all of whom she highly recommends. They will be working from her clinic and can be contacted on the usual number, and further details can be found here:
